Pros and cons of thermoforming
Relatively low tooling costs
Wide variety of plastic raw materials possible
Great for small quantities and prototyping method for uniform products
Relatively low shape complexity
* In thermoforming, a plastic sheet is the basis of any product. This limits the forming possibilities of the final product.
25 Years of Product Development Experience
Low-volume High-mix production
Flexible up- and downscaling in assembly
Kwaliteitsbeheer ISO 9001:2000, ISO 13485
In-house assembly (IP protection)

Thermoforming and Vacuum Forming: What’s the Difference?
We’re often asked if QoCreators handles vacuum forming in addition to thermoforming. The answer is yes!
Key Difference:
- Vacuum forming is a subset of thermoforming. In vacuum forming, heated plastic is tightly molded around a shape using a vacuum, ensuring precise conformity to the mold.
- While all vacuum forming is thermoforming, not all thermoforming uses vacuum techniques.

FAQ
Thermoforming is a manufacturing process in which a flat plastic sheet is heated and then deformed to assume a certain shape.
To change the shape of the plastic sheet, it is first heated until it reaches a temperature at which it is pliable and therefore moldable. A die or mold is used that has the shape of the final product. Around this, the plastic sheet is formed by heat. The sheet is also pressurized and/or a vacuum is applied to pull it into the proper shape.
Thermoforming breaks down into these production steps:
Plastic sheet preparation and heating. The plastic sheets are cut to size, cleaned and then heated in an oven to just below the melting point.
Placing the sheet over the mold or die. By pressure or vacuum, the heated sheet takes the shape of the mold.
Cooling and curing. The plate is pressed into the desired shape. Now it is cooled with water or air so that it cures in this shape.
Removal from the mold. The finished product is removed from the mold and, if necessary, the edges are finished.
Possible assembly. If the molded product is a part, then this part can now be processed into a finished product.
Thermoforming is a widely used method for manufacturing, for example, (blister) packaging, enclosures, trays, bins, toys and automotive surfaces.
