FAQ

Plastic extrusion is a production method by which plastic products can be manufactured. The prerequisite for making a product through plastic extrusion is that it is a product with a fixed, constant cross-section. Examples include sheets, profiles, pipes and tubes.

A product often made by this production method is a plastic extrusion profile. Such a profile can be used by many different purposes, for example as a window or door profile or as an automotive part.

If we take a profile as an example of a product we produce by plastic extrusion, the manufacturing process of that plastic extrusion profile looks like this:

From product design to mold design. You have a design for your profile. We convert that into a suitable mold design that we will later use as a mold to produce your plastic extrusion profile.

Raw material preparation. The plastic granules or pellets that serve as the raw material for the final product are heated in the extruder until they are liquid.

Plastic extrusion. The liquid raw material is forced from the extruder through the die under high pressure, taking the shape of the die.

Cooling and solidification. The final product coming out of the die must now solidify. To cool the product, it can be given a water bath, for example, or cooled by air cooling.

Cutting off the finished product and finishing. In plastic extrusion, the die produces an infinite pressure product as long as liquid feedstock is supplied. Thus, to finish the product, it is cut off.

If necessary, the product is finished, such as by polishing, drilling or printing. This may be followed by assembly to arrive at the final product.

Thermoplastics in particular are suitable for injection molding. Examples include ABS, PC, PMMA, PA and many combinations, whether or not supplemented with glass and fire-retardant or specific uv-resistance properties.

Plastic extrusion is a technique that can be used to manufacture a variety of types of products. It is a method that, once the mold is manufactured, provides a fast and very precise production method for producing large runs in a short period of time.
